So we were telling you that a patient has similar rights as a customer in our previous article which was Part-I of our series on medical negligence.
While most of you must have read this as news, we would like to highlight that this comes close on the heels of the Part-I of the article that we have published on medical negligence and rights of patients by Adv L G Sujatha, last week.
Enclosed link from the online edition of the Times of India dated 22/10/2011, details the case of record 1.34 crores of compensation paid to a patient’s family. It is not the amount of penalty or compensation itself that makes the case headlines. As far as we are concerned, the decision to declare the negligent medical practitioners as guilty and having them pay the compensation itself, that makes the patient who is the consumer in this case, a winner hands down.
